Root Canal Treatment
What is Root Canal Treatment (RCT)?
Root Canal Treatment (RCT) is a dental procedure used to treat and save a tooth that is severely decayed, infected, or damaged. It involves removing the infected or inflamed pulp (soft tissue inside the tooth), cleaning and disinfecting the inside of the tooth, and then sealing it to prevent further infection.

When is Root Canal Treatment Needed?
- Severe Tooth Pain: Especially when chewing or applying pressure.
- Sensitivity to Hot or Cold: Prolonged sensitivity that lingers even after the source is removed.
- Swelling or Tender Gums: Around the affected tooth.
- Darkening or Discoloration: Of the tooth, indicating internal damage.
- Presence of an Abscess: A pimple-like bump on the gum.
- Deep Decay or Trauma: That exposes the pulp to bacteria.

Steps of a Root Canal Treatment
- Diagnosis: X-rays are taken to assess the extent of damage or infection.
- Anesthesia: Local anesthesia is administered to numb the area.
- Pulp Removal: The dentist removes the infected or damaged pulp from the tooth.
- Cleaning & Shaping: The root canals are cleaned, disinfected, and shaped to prepare for filling.
- Filling & Sealing: The cleaned canals are filled with a biocompatible material (like gutta-percha) and sealed.
- Restoration: A crown or filling is placed to restore the tooth’s function and appearance.
